Rebranding for the next generation of talent

Carbon Underwriting are a specialist, independent, class agnostic Managing General Underwriter (MGU), as well as Syndicate CBD 4747 supported by its own technology ecosystem, Graphene.


They are a global team of innovators, disrupters and free-thinkers, focused on shaping the future of the risk insights.


OB were engaged to create a dynamic, standout brand and strategy for Carbon Underwriting. We were also tasked to develop a unique global benchmark positioning, as well as deliver their online presence through a new website and refreshed digital assets.

Carbon are a young, dynamic and ambitious player in a traditional market. They wanted a cut-through brand which would reflect their ethos, personality and proposition. They also wanted a brand that would attract the best talent and show off their global ambitions and strategy.

Underwriters, syndicate and tech platform, the brand needed to scale and adopt an architecture that gave them a stable of identities to build on.

Still under development, the brand will continue to evolve across the business to help Carbon grow its reach and fulfil its strategy.


Stakeholder management was key in drawing a clear consensus among the business leaders, to reflect the new game-changing strategy and positioning we’d developed.

We created a refreshed brand and visual identity, a clear brand architecture and a full digital strategy for their online presence.

The new identity is clean, simple and contemporary, it is underpinned by a strong online presence and assets, helping to build a modern, stand-out brand in an otherwise traditional and well established sector.

Our process and output provides a framework to build and expand the brand, where Carbon can scale their operation and proposition under the same visual language and brand personality.

As the brand is applied throughout the business ecosystem, including office environmental design, presentation materials and assets, the identity, brand treatment and personality will become more visible, setting a benchmark for the market.


The new eye-catching identity with its cut-through positioning helps to raise Carbon Underwriting’s global market profile and easily enables them to attract new talent.

With further brand architecture development for the Graphene platform, ongoing asset production and brand application across marketing collateral, we will see more of the Carbon story being unveiled soon.
